GENE’S TAE TRAILS

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 1 – WORDS – public and felt sensing

6:49
A felt sense has some new way that things are in it. It has some new arrangement in it. So if I write a sentence that says, with “patience” you get something new

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 2 – PARADOX and PATTERNS

8:23
Paradox didn’t only mean a contradiction that you say well I give up. A paradox has usually meant a promise, that more is coming. So if I say my friend, whom I’m telling you about – he is rich and poor, you’re not upset. You’re waiting. Right?

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 3 – PARTNERING for THINKING

11:28
I found what i decided to call the “hollow brick”, which is like when you tap (on the wall), when you know that there is a passageway somewhere.

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 4 – WHAT SEEMS LIKE NOTHING

6:58
So wait, so let me take “even more than what I have” and let me see if I can get a felt sentence …that is a felt sentence, but to get a further felt sentence … “more than what I have”.

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 5 – THERE IS A MORE RIGHT WAY

8:26
Something that’s not there and yet it does something. That’s already an interesting pattern. We can understand that. The absence has effects. Like you know,

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 6 – AMAZING SPACE ARRANGEMENT Ordinary & Spiritual Crossing

11:29
Look at my three examples, yes they all have this pattern. “Something missing is doing something”, “something not here is doing something”, that’s the pattern.

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 7 – BUILDING A THEORY

6:29
So we’re building theory. Which is to say we are building understanding. But the felt sense is already an understanding.

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 8 – TEMPORARY TERMS – Step 10

8:10
So I am in step 10 and 11, in step 10 exactly, pretending that I already have my fixed units. But I know I don’t want to have yet my fixed units. So i’m playing with

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 9 – THE INHERENT RELATION Step 11

9:16
In step 11 I find inherent connections. And step 11 is the hard one. So I’m going to say that A is B and A is C. There are two “IS”s in this stuff and the first one is the big IS or equal = sign. A = B and A = C.

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 10 – INTERLOCKING TERMS

7:00
(Gene) An inherent connection is well known in LOGIC where it’s called an ANALYTIC connection. Which means that how you have defined step A already includes what B is in it. That’s how you get necessary connections…

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 11 – INTERVIEW little extra help for 10,11,12

8:43
In step 10 you do open logic right? And your terms are temporary? And they’re temporary because you are looking for permanent ones? Yes.

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 12 – DERIVING – feeding the theory

5:13
So now I want to show you something fun. Once you have even three or four terms clustered like that, like mathematics, like each one defined in terms of the others, that thing is now a kind of a theory. A small theory, but a theory.

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 13 – APPLYING THEORY Steps 13,14

4:11
Step 13 Theory – you can apply it all over the place. Some of it seriously, some of it just lightly, humorously. So the same thing that I described as deriving. The next term in my theory, if i want to, I can derive things that are very far away and that is like 13. So i can say what is ART according to my theory? Well can you feel that i’m going to be able to do something if I think of art as “spatial – izing” – like – what isn’t here …

GENE’S TAE TRAIL 14 – INSTANCE OF ITSELF IOFI

6:15
Each person makes a different theory. TAE theory is from you, so it’s different. Nobody else will do that like you. Yet from each one, each TAE theory brings the experience with the concept. So that mostly, until now, you only got the concepts, the result, the conclusion, the words, the structures…..

MORE TAE

THINKING AT THE EDGE (TAE)

7:18
We are bringing you here a new practice called THINKING AT THE EDGE – (TAE). It was developed out of Gene Gendlin’s Philosophy of the Implicit entry.

Creating with Creators: A Bigger Picture

10:53
Thinking at the Edge TAE is the second practice developed out of Gendlin’s Philosophy of the Implicit. TAE is a way of articulating, of finding new language to say something that you have known and have not been able communicate.

Is Felt Sense Biological?

9:40
Gene Gendlin and Nada Lou discuss Biology and Felt Sense viewed through TAE steps and in A Process Model.

Patience … TAE language

3:28
The whole thing has three parts. The first part has to do with language. OK now what do I mean. Well by language I mean words and phrases. Phrases are more important than just words.

Something precious to say … Inception of TAE 1998

6:00
All I need right now is that you understand that there’s something precious about being able to say. Oh it’s not enough to say two ways.

A glimpse on A PROCESS MODEL with Eugene T. Gendlin Ph.D.

12:00
So now about A Process Model. That came from applying the philosophy about how something is at first inarticulate and it implies something which then when you get it, you look back and you say – that was what I was trying to say.

WORDS AND PHRASES with Eugene T. Gendlin Ph.D.

2:50
That invites another piece which I’ve already prepared with Wittgenstein. That words no longer mean what they mean in the dictionary. Now they mean what happens in a situation when they’re used.

Dreaming and Reality, TAE process with Gene Gendlin and Teresa Dawson

15:20
Go where there is little excitement. That will help me teach it. Where is it that it gets almost there, so you get excited? The excitement has to be with us.

Because it is YOU with Gene Gendlin

2:30
Gendlin encourages you to develop your Thinking at the Edge because nobody else would be able to say what you know in the way as you do.

DEMOCRACY AND TAE with Eugene T. Gendlin Ph.D.

2:30
And then there are a few people who want to build actually a theory. What’s a theory? Well it’s some concepts, ideas, definitions, something that you build that gets added to the world.

COMING BACK INTO CONCEPTUAL STRUCTURES WITH THINKING, with Eugene T. Gendlin Ph.D.

5:42
We are in fact always living in the kind of interaction with human beings and animals in the universe, that we were going back into with thinking.

LIKENESS and CROSSING with Gene Gendlin

7:26
Notice that the word like is being used in a very different way here than usual. The whole thing we’re trying to say lies is the difference between the usual “like”.

THE PERSON IS THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE, with Eugene Gendlin Ph.D.

3:54
Now let’s see. I’ve got Diana’s theory and I want to use it, so I can say something for me out of it. Now where I am is, I need to articulate that the person is there in the first place.

Crossing in TAE with Eugene T. Gendlin Ph.D.

3:00
So when I cross them, what I’m doing is I’m looking at each one through the other two. And looking at each of them through that one it brings out something I didn’t see before.

MAKE YOURSELF A SAFETY with Eugene T. Gendlin

4:26
Make yourself a safety there. You’ve been brave up to here now. Now assure it that you’re not going to say anymore unless you first check that it feels good to say it.

INTERACTION FIRST, A PROCESS MODEL, LAND WE BELONG TO

11:30
Program is to discuss the Process Model and of course for the purpose of helping you with your thing. A Process Models got 400 pages or something, nobody has read it all.

FELT SENSE HAS UNFOLDING POSSIBILITY Eugene T. Gendlin Ph.D.

7:39
This kind of theory that you keep connected to a felt sense has an unfolding possibility. It doesn’t in all ways, but it is capable of unfolding. The organism is a kind of validity that we need to get clear

ROGERS AND GENDLIN ABOUT THERAPY with Eugene T. Gendlin Ph.D.

5:05
Well when I was a student, Carl Rogers published that thing about the therapist has to be genuine, empathic, and positive, and then he had another condition which is the client has to perceive that.

MY RELATION TO AN ULTIMATE, my cat theology with Gene Gendlin

8:35
Yeah you’re right this is NOT my mission to talk about. What you know Focusing is a little door that’s what I know about, and once you’re through the door you’re on your own. And we don’t… I go through that door sure I do.

THINKING AND SPEAKING

5:49
TAE – Thinking and Speaking are special kinds of living. Special kinds of physical ongoing living and they have their own continuity.

STEP 1 – let a FELT SENSE form, with Mary Hendricks Gendlin Ph.D.

4:48
I hope you will spend a great deal of time on step number one. That the choosing of what you’re going to do the whole rest of your time on, is really critical.

GRASP WITH YOUR MIND – TAE 14 steps with Eugene T. Gendlin PhD

5:42
Anything that we do that has a practice with it has this two-sided quality. On the one hand we have steps. So we have 14 STEPS. So who is going to remember 14 steps? But we need those steps only to teach it.

THREE CHUNKS OF TAE withe Eugene T Gendlin PhD

5:56
Then I would like to say that whole TAE procedure can be divided into three chunks. The first five steps are a kind of a trick, a method, a stimulus, a way to produce a lot of strands out of your thing.

53 THE LANGUAGE THEORY with Eugene Gendlin

7:03
Most of the theories that we have assume that the world comes in units. When you start, everything is already in chunks. So the theory we have about language say that language consists of shared meanings, common phrases.

PATTERNS – TAE with Gene Gendlin

6:08
We have steps 1,2,3,4,5, so the first five steps of TAE you now understand. Then we come to 6,7 and 8, and that’s the second part of TAE. The word to name that whole section is PATTERNS.
